Aston Villa could lose defender to La Liga side in the summer

Aston Villa might be losing one of their defenders to a La Liga team next summer due to their continual enquiries.

The Aston Villa squad could be having their squad reduced next summer should they not find the replacement. One of their defenders, Andres Garcia, has gained interest from his hometown side, Valencia. According to the reports in Cope, Los Ches have made contact with their agent on his situation at Villa Park. They are ready to make another approach to the Lions in the summer.

Struggling in England

Andres Garcia arrived in Villa Park in January 2025. He signed for an undisclosed fee from Levante, which was competing in the second tier at that time.

However, his time in England has not been going well as expected. The 22-year-old right back is struggling to get some regular minutes with the first team. He has just been fielded 17 times so far without a single contribution on the pitch. Garcia has been mainly used as a substitute as well. Such lack of playing time put him on Valencia’s radar.

Valencia has had some problems in the right-back position. They currently have no players with convincing form. Thierry Correia, Dmitri Foulquier and Renzo Saravia have yet to perform at the expected level. The last two names are even already more than 30 years old. So, Garcia is seen as an ideal solution.

The side which was once led by Unai Emery himself in his early managerial career before cementing his success in Sevilla had already made enquiries to sign him last January. Yet, Emery insists that he is part of his plan till the end of the season.

Will the move materialise?

It is interesting to see if Villa will sanction the move. Considering the current situation, his struggles, injuries with thigh problems and fitness lately, the Clarets and Blue could let him leave.

Nevertheless, Valencia might not be in their ideal condition to sign him permanently. They could negotiate a loan deal instead. It will benefit all parties. Los Ches will get what they need: a young player with full potential and a true local player, as he was born in the city.

Meanwhile, for Garcia, he could finally play regularly and develop himself with more minutes on the pitch and surely confidence which perhaps can attract more or better suitors in the following season beside Valencia. The former Levante man has what it takes to be successful there.

Last but not least, for Villa, which secured him for around £6 million on his move, loaning him out seems a perfect contingency plan rather than selling him in the summer. He gets the regular minutes he wants and an opportunity to develop himself. As the Lions let him leave on loan, Garcia could be called up again for the first team, in case the squad crisis strikes the team. So, it seems an ideal solution for all parties.
