It's a new week, which means there's a fresh slate of television shows and films headed to streaming. We've sifted through the new programming to round up the six best TV premieres and movie streaming debuts worth watching this weekend.
Some of the best new shows include a quirky, genre-defying series on Apple TV and a dutiful adaptation of Isabel Allende's first novel on Prime Video. Plus, one of the most hotly-discussed movies of the year (so far) is finally available to stream at home if you have an HBO Max subscription.
6: Zillow Gone Wild
If you've ever spent hours scrolling through properties on Zillow out of pure curiosity with no intention of making an offer on a house, "Zillow Gone Wild" might be for you. "30 Rock" star Jack McBrayer returns to host the third season of this HGTV series, which explores some of the most interesting and wacky homes out there. You can stream new episodes the next day on HBO Max, but if you want to watch them live, you'll need an HGTV-friendly live TV service like DirecTV, YouTube TV, or Sling TV.
5: Swapped
For something that the whole family can enjoy, try "Swapped," Netflix's new animated movie about two creatures living in The Valley. After accidentally swapping bodies, the two critters (voiced by "Sinners" star Michael B. Jordan and Juno Temple of "Ted Lasso" fame) set out on an adventure. The sworn enemies must work together on their journey to switch their bodies back, coming across several other animals in the process. You can stream the movie on Netflix.
4: The House of the Spirits
The latest adaptation of Isabel Allende's work comes in the form of a miniseries based on her debut novel, "The House of the Spirits." The story follows the multigenerational Trueba family in an unnamed, Chile-inspired South American country. The Spanish-language adaptation pulls on elements of magical realism, starring Alfonso Herrera, Nicole Wallace, and Dolores Fonzi. You can stream new episodes on Prime Video.
3: Man on Fire
If you missed the excellent but under-advertised Marvel series "Wonder Man" last year, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's next project, "Man of Fire," might draw you in. The "Watchmen" star portrays a Special Forces mercenary forced to extremes after a botched mission in Rio. Billie Boullet, Scoot McNairy, Alice Braga, and Bobby Cannavale also star. You can stream the series in full on Netflix.
2: Wuthering Heights
Everyone seems to have an opinion about the latest "Wuthering Heights" adaptation, but if you've yet to form your own, now is your chance. The film hails from Emerald Fennell (the writer-director of "Promising Young Woman" and "Saltburn") and puts a spin on the Emily Brontë novel of the same name. "Wuthering Heights" stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. After an initial digital VOD rental and purchase period, the movie is now streaming on HBO Max.
1: Widow's Bay
This week's top pick comes from Katie Dippold, the writer behind "The Heat." The horror-comedy "Widow's Bay," somewhat reminiscent of "Twin Peaks," stars Matthew Rhys ("The Americans") as the mayor of a small New England town who is attempting to boost tourism despite the area's cursed reputation. It's the latest genre-blending series to hit Apple TV, and you can stream new episodes weekly.
