'Hell or High Water': Netflix Removes Taylor Sheridan Movie --- Find Out Where It's Streaming
Netflix has removed one of Taylor Sheridan's most beloved films from its catalog. It became a casualty of the May 1 purge (as it were). Released in US theaters on Aug. 12, 2016, Hell or High Water grossed $37.9 million at the box office on a $12 million budget. The neo-Western crime drama was widely lauded for being a "well-crafted, well-acted Western heist thriller that eschews mindless gunplay in favor of confident pacing and full-bodied characters."
Here's a synopsis:
"A divorced father and his ex-con brother plan a series of heists against the bank that's about to foreclose on their family ranch."
The film stars Ben Foster as Tanner Howard, Chris Pine as Toby Howard, Gil Birmingham (who would go on to star in Sheridan's signature hit series Yellowstone) as Texas Ranger Alberto Parker, Dale Dickey as Elsie, Marin Ireland as Debbie Howard, Amber Midthunder as Natalie Martinez, Katy Mixon as Jenny Ann, and Jeff Bridges as Texas Ranger Marcus Hamilton. Sheridan also appears as a cowboy. David Mackenzie directed from Sheridan's script.
Hell or High Water is the second film in Sheridan's American Frontier trilogy, the first being the critically acclaimed Sicario (2015) and the second being Wind River (2017).
The American Film Institute selected the Western as one of the Top 10 films of 2016. Later, in 2021, members of the Writers Guild of America West and East branches voted Sheridan's script at No. 64 on the guild's list of the "101 Greatest Screenplays of the 21st Century (So Far)." Hell or High Water was also nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing, and Best Supporting Actor for Bridges.
If you're wondering where you can stream it next, fret not—Peacock now has it on its platform. It's also on Philo for free and can be purchased on Prime Video and Fandango at Home.
