The clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa is a crucial one for Spurs, like the rest of the Premier League games still to come.
Victory in these games will give Spurs a strong chance of avoiding relegation and securing their Premier League status after what has been a difficult campaign thus far.
However, for the first time since Roberto De Zerbi took charge of the north London club, the Italian will have to make significant changes to his Tottenham XI as he searches for a result at Villa Park.
That is because Xavi Simons and Dominic Solanke have now joined Mohammed Kudus and Cristian Romero on the sidelines, players De Zerbi was looking to rely on in the final weeks of the season.
Of course, these are not the only players missing for this weekend’s clash against Aston Villa, with a staggering 11 Spurs stars set to be unavailable.
While we have attempted to predict how Roberto De Zerbi will line up on Sunday against Villa, we have now also put together the ideal Tottenham XI we would rather see this weekend.
Tottenham XI vs Aston Villa prediction as injuries force changes
Starting in goal, Guglielmo Vicario is nearing a return and could be in contention for this weekend’s game following his hernia surgery over a month ago.
The temptation for De Zerbi to include the Italian in the starting XI might be high, but it could be better if Spurs stick with Antonin Kinsky, who has barely put a foot wrong since deputising for Vicario.
His calmness on the ball and shot-stopping have been good enough, so there is little need to change that now.
In front of the Czech international, we expect a change to the back four that featured in Tottenham’s maiden win of 2026 at Molineux.
Pedro Porro’s creativity is crucial, while the composure of Kevin Danso and the pace of Micky van de Ven will be key against Villa.
At left-back, however, we expect Destiny Udogie to come in for Djed Spence if fit after a muscular issue, with De Zerbi previously confirming that Udogie’s injury was not serious.
Spurs attack selection key against Aston Villa
In midfield, there is a strong case for the stability and composure that Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma bring.
Since starting together against Brighton, they have looked solid, and their experience could be vital again.
However, in the number ten role, a change could be needed, with Lucas Bergvall offering more creativity than Conor Gallagher, who has provided energy and pressing but limited attacking output.
Further forward, changes feel inevitable. It may be time for De Zerbi to turn to youth, with Tynan Thompson an option to help Spurs navigate their injury crisis.
While Randal Kolo Muani has struggled on the right, the manager has continued to back him, but at this stage of the season, output is key.
Thompson has scored 13 goals at youth level and, although he has not featured in the senior Tottenham squad this term, he could offer a natural wide option.
In the centre-forward role, Richarlison could replace Dominic Solanke, while Mathys Tel may come in on the left in place of Xavi Simons, offering directness and the ability to create from wide areas.
In all, this is the XI to consider against Villa – Kinsky; Porro, Danso, van de Ven, Udogie; Bentancur, Bissouma, Bergvall; Tynan Thompson, Richarlison, Tel.
