Sparc Systems Expands Malawi’s Digital Infrastructure with New Data Centre
ICT service provider Sparc Systems Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Malawi’s digital transformation following the launch of its new data centre in Lilongwe.
The facility was unveiled during the fourth edition of Think Tech Thursday and is expected to provide secure data hosting services for institutions within and outside the country.
Sparc Systems Founder and Managing Director Dr. Wisely Phiri said the company has capacity to host up to 120 racks, with each rack capable of storing petabytes of data, describing the facility as sufficient to meet Malawi’s growing digital needs.
Phiri said the company has already started exporting services to 10 countries and aims to create an environment where local innovators and institutions can securely store data without relying on foreign solutions.
Meanwhile, Data Centre Manager in the Department of E-Government under the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Paul Kanthambi, described the launch as a major step towards Malawi’s digitalisation agenda, saying secure data storage remains key in implementing digital systems and services.
