Tottenham summer exodus: 10 players who could leave if Spurs are relegated - Opinion

Tottenham Hotspur’s fight to stay in the Premier League is not just about survival on the pitch. If they are relegated, the club could face a major rebuild, with several key players likely to leave. We have now identified 10 players who could be on their way out of the club if the worst comes to worst.

Tottenham Hotspur head into the final weeks of the season in a difficult position, still sitting in the bottom three and at real risk of relegation from the Premier League. With only four games left (Aston Villa, Leeds, Chelsea and Everton), they are running out of time to turn things around, and they may have to rely on other results to stay up.

Following their first Premier League win against Wolves in Gameweek 34, attention now turns to their next away match against Aston Villa this weekend. Villa’s form has not been great, which could give Tottenham a chance to take advantage, even though the Lilywhites themselves have also struggled for consistency this season.

Going down would not only be a major setback for Tottenham, but also a financial one. Relegation would likely force Spurs into cutting costs and reducing their wage bill, which could lead to several key players being sold in order to balance the books.

Because of that, Tottenham would likely still need to change many players and rebuild the squad almost completely if they get relegated. With that in mind, here are 10 Tottenham players who could be on their way out if relegation happens.

Guglielmo Vicario – Inter Milan sniff around Tottenham’s number one

Guglielmo Vicario has not been at his best this season and has also faced competition from younger keeper Antonin Kinsky. However, he is still an international-level goalkeeper.

He has already been linked with a return to Serie A, with Inter Milan reportedly making advances in a deal to sign him from Spurs this summer. If Tottenham were to go down, it would be hard for him to stay, especially as he will want to keep his place in the Italian national team and continue playing at a top level.

Cristian Romero – Spurs may have to part with club captain

The Spurs captain Cristian Romero remains one of Tottenham’s key defenders and leaders, but his future continues to be talked about. It has now become known that he may have played his final game this season, after picking up a knee injury against Sunderland which ruled him out for the rest of the campaign. He is still attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid both linked.

Romero is highly rated for his aggressive defending and leadership, and several reports suggest Spurs could be open to selling him as part of a rebuild, even if they remain in the Premier League.

Micky van de Ven – Big-money Tottenham exit is possible

The Dutch defender has been one of Tottenham’s standout players despite a difficult season, but his future is already attracting strong interest.

Clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid are also reportedly monitoring him. United see him as a strong option because of his speed and calmness in possession.

If Spurs were to be relegated, he would be very difficult to keep, with a move away becoming a strong possibility. If they stay up, his situation is more open, but interest from top European clubs remains high.

Destiny Udogie – Injury problems have hindered Spurs career

One of Tottenham’s most exciting young players, Destiny Udogie is attracting growing interest as clubs continue to monitor his situation at Spurs.

Manchester City, who are reportedly planning a move for him if Spurs were to go down, are long-term admirers of the Italian full-back, while Juventus are also keeping close tabs with a view to bringing him back to Serie A a few years after his move.

Udogie is highly rated for his pace, strength, and attacking runs from left-back, making him a strong fit for top European teams. While he remains an important player for Spurs, strong interest from elite clubs means his future could become a key talking point.

Udogie is currently sidelined with a muscular injury and missed their clash against Wolves last weekend, and we would be expecting Roberto De Zerbi to provide an update on Udogie in their upcoming match against Aston Villa.

Lucas Bergvall – Tottenham will be desperate to keep him

A highly rated young midfielder, Lucas Bergvall has had a more difficult season compared to last year, when he was one of Tottenham’s standout performers. And despite his struggles this season, he still remains an important player of the club even though his future remains a doubt.

Chelsea and Aston Villa have both shown interest in him, and while he is not actively looking to leave, there is growing uncertainty around his situation. At just 20, he needs regular top-flight football, and Spurs may have to consider a sale if major squad changes are needed. For now, he remains a key young talent at the club.

Xavi Simons – Will anyone take a risk on an ACL injury?

A former La Masia player, Xavi Simons joined Tottenham expecting to play Champions League football, but now faces the real possibility of playing in the Championship, showing how quickly things have changed.

He has also been on clubs like Man United, Bayern Munich and Barcelona’s radar if spurs went down. After strong spells with Paris Saint-Germain, PSV Eindhoven and RB Leipzig, he made a solid impact at Spurs this season, scoring five goals and providing six assists in 41 appearances.

However, his campaign has been cut short by an ACL injury suffered against Wolves, which will keep him out for the rest of the season and the World Cup. That injury could also reduce immediate interest from Barcelona as he focuses on recovery, although he is still expected to attract attention once he returns to full fitness.

Mohammed Kudus – Tottenham’s assist king

One of the few players to stand out this season, Mohammed Kudus has impressed with his dribbling, physicality, and creativity, and assisted six during his playing time at December.

However, his campaign has been disrupted by an injury, with Spurs suggesting he may need surgery, making it unlikely he will feature again this season.

Despite this, he is attracting interest from Manchester United and Chelsea ahead of the summer window, with both clubs monitoring his situation closely. With Spurs fighting for survival, his future remains uncertain if major changes happen at the club.

Dejan Kulusevski – Tottenham transfer could be risky for buyers

Dejan Kulusevski has been heavily missed this season due to injury and is also expected to leave, with a return to Italy being widely discussed. He is still recovering from a knee injury suffered last year, which has kept him out for much of the campaign and limited his impact on Spurs’ season.

However, reports suggest his future is still more likely to be at Spurs next season, with the club currently having no plans to sell him at such an important stage of his career. Despite the team’s difficult situation, it is also understood that Kulusevski has not expressed any desire to leave.

AC Milan on the other hand are also seen as a potential option for his signature this summer, given his strong performances in Serie A before joining Tottenham.

Dominic Solanke – Championship season seems unlikely

Arriving for a fee rumoured to be around £65 million just 18 months ago, Dominic Solanke is another player who is often linked with a possible summer exit.

Apart from solanke, Rodrigo Bentancur’s contract also expires in the summer, making his departure very likely as Spurs prepare for changes in the squad. Solanke is still an important striker, but he is regularly mentioned in reports about players who could leave depending on how the club reshapes the team.

Mathys Tel, who joined permanently from Bayern Munich for around £30 million, has struggled for regular starts and could be allowed to go out on loan rather than be sold. Wilson Odobert has also been affected by injury, while Spurs are reportedly preparing for the possible sale of Pape Matar Sarr as part of wider squad changes, along with other highly paid players in the squad.

Randal Kolo Muani – Currently on loan at Tottenham

Currently on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, Randal Kolo Muani is expected to leave Tottenham in the summer. Reports suggest Spurs have no plans to make his move permanent, with both the club and the player likely to go separate ways at the end of the season. He also considered leaving in January but stayed due to no replacement being signed.

Tottenham were open to letting him go mid-season if a new striker arrived, but that did not happen, so his exit now looks likely. Club like Juventus pushed hard to sign him in January, and they are seen as his most likely destination in the summer, and the club have stayed in contact with him and are preparing for another move.
