Post Game Recap – Apr. 22nd, 2026
The Nanaimo Clippers came out with a strong start but ultimately fell 5–2 to the Cowichan Valley Capitals in Game 4 of their second-round series. Despite early pressure and a physical tone set by Charles Beland, the Clippers trailed 1–0 after the first period and found themselves down 3–0 midway through the second. Nanaimo responded with goals from Harrison Boldt and Drew Roelofs to cut the deficit to one, but Cowichan Valley answered each push to maintain control. The Capitals capitalized on special teams and key moments, including a reviewed goal in the third to restore a two-goal cushion. A late-game altercation led to penalties that halted any chance of a Clippers comeback, and Cowichan added an insurance marker to secure the win. Despite the loss, Nanaimo maintains a 3–1 series lead in the best-of-seven matchup.
The Nanaimo Clippers came out with pace and purpose to open the contest, applying early pressure in the offensive zone. Cowichan Valley Capitals goaltender Jayden Sharma was sharp from the outset, turning aside a dangerous cross-crease opportunity to keep the game scoreless. Charles Beland, the BCHL’s leading goal scorer, made his presence felt physically, finishing checks and setting an aggressive tone for Nanaimo. The Clippers also showed strong defensive commitment, consistently getting in shooting lanes to block attempts.
Despite the early push from Nanaimo, it was Cowichan Valley that broke through midway through the period to take a 1–0 lead. The Clippers were tested again shortly after, heading to the penalty kill, but managed to successfully keep the deficit at one. Nanaimo nearly found an equalizer late in the frame when Caden Okovita jammed a puck through Sharma’s legs, but it stopped just short of crossing the goal line. After twenty minutes, the Capitals held a 1–0 advantage
In the second period, the Clippers looked to claw their way back into the game and nearly did so early, as Charles Beland fired a shot that just sailed over the crossbar. However, it was Cowichan Valley that struck again, extending their lead to 2–0 five minutes into the frame. Nanaimo was then tasked with their second penalty kill of the night, but this time the Capitals capitalized on the man advantage, pushing the score to 3–0. The Clippers responded with some pushback, breaking through for their first goal of the game as Harrison Boldt notched his first of the playoffs to cut the deficit to 3–1. Nanaimo continued to generate chances, with Patrick Fortune nearly adding another after deking Sharma out of position, but he was unable to settle the puck for a finish. Despite those opportunities, the Capitals controlled much of the period with sustained pressure, carrying a 3–1 lead into the second intermission.
In the third period, the Clippers made an early push to get back into the game. Drew Roelofs capitalized on a fallen Capitals defender, finding the back of the net to cut the deficit to 3–2 and give Nanaimo life. However, Cowichan Valley responded just minutes later, restoring their two-goal lead. The play required a brief review, but the goal was ultimately confirmed, making it 4–2 for the visitors.
Nanaimo attempted to build momentum late, increasing the pressure in the offensive zone, but the push came up short. Tempers flared in the final minutes after Charles Beland delivered a heavy hit on a Capitals player, sparking a brouhaha that resulted in multiple penalties and a five-minute penalty kill for the Clippers.
Cowichan Valley would add one more late goal to seal the result, skating away with a 5–2 victory.
