Kelsey Plum Finds Warmth and Balance With Her Own Private Selection Bourbon From Maker's Mark

Last year, Los Angeles Sparks star Kelsey Plum visited the famed Star Hill Farm in Loretto, Kentucky, home of the Maker’s Mark Distillery.

Like so many legends before her, including Baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken Jr., Plum participated in the brand's Private Selection program, which allows bourbon's most famous and accomplished fans to create a one-of-a-kind expression by customizing the finishing process of Maker's Mark bourbon.

The fruits of her labor have now come to fruition. Plum and Maker's Mark announced on Wednesday their collaboration that produced Yam Jam by Kelsey Plum, a custom Private Selection bourbon inspired by the two-time WNBA champion's relentless pursuit of excellence and unapologetically bold approach to her craft.

The limited-edition bourbon will be available beginning May 7 at select retailers in Los Angeles. Maker's Mark has donated the first barrel, approximately 275 bottles, to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation for charitable auctions and events.

The foundation's funding priorities include tools, equipment, and training for L.A. firefighters to help bridge a funding gap. It's a most worthy cause, especially when considering what L.A.'s firefighters experienced during the devastating fires in Palisades and Altadena in 2025.

What to Expect from Yam Jam by Kelsey Plum

Plum, whose blockbuster trade to the Los Angeles Sparks in 2025 made national headlines, said she "wanted something bold and distinctive, with warmth and balance."

Bottled at 55.65 percent ABV (111.3 proof), fans can expect a Yam Jam that opens with aromas of bright chili spice and citrus, balanced by toasted oak, white pepper, and cherry. Expect sweet potato pie, toasted pecans, and soft baking spices on the first sip, finishing with a vibrant lingering blend of baking chocolate, pie cherries, and orange rind.

"Working with Maker's Mark to create my own bourbon gave me a chance to take the same approach I bring to the court -- thoughtful, precise, and intentional -- and craft an expression that truly reflects who I am," said Plum, who is also a guard on Unrivaled's Phantom squad. "I've always admired Maker's Mark for their dedication to taking the time to achieve their exact vision."

Plum Knows Her Bourbon ... and Cigars

It comes as a surprise to absolutely no one that the former University of Washington legend is a bourbon enthusiast. She's a cigar aficionado, too.

Fans will remember her lighting up cigars to celebrate back-to-back WNBA championships with the Las Vegas Aces.

She also smoked a cigar during the championship parade after winning the second title. The G move sparked a partnership with Kingmakers to launch her own exclusive cigar, a Connecticut-wrapped, medium-bodied cigar.

In other words, Plum has exquisite taste.
