Idaho Ballot Measure Would Allow Abortions Up to Birth
Idahoans United for Women and Children, the group sponsoring the pro-abortion ballot initiative (RFPA), recently lambasted Idaho Chooses Life and their leader David Ripley. They say he’s lying about the RFPA allowing abortion up to birth.
Do you want the truth? Does it really allow abortion up to birth? The short answer is yes, but not for any reason. The RFPA (Reproductive Freedom and Privacy Act) allows abortion up to “fetal viability” BUT they redefined fetal viability. Instead of the commonly accepted ~23 weeks when a baby can survive outside the womb with medical intervention. The RFPA definition is as follows:
d. “Fetal Viability” means the point in a pregnancy when, on the basis of a physician’s good faith medical judgment, based on the facts known at the time, and determined on a case-by-case basis, the fetus has a significant likelihood of sustained survival outside of the uterus without extraordinary medical measures.
This definition allows for abortion up to birth in cases like MY SON. Did you know that Right to Life of Idaho’s president Emily Naugle has a son with half a heart?? That’s right, thanks to extraordinary measures, we are blessed with an extraordinary kid! See the Shout My Story below!
So while the RFPA allows abortion for any reason up to “fetal viability” it’s loose definition allows the doctor to determine that “point.” That certainly opens the door for “up to birth” cases of prenatal diagnoses, such as heart defects. Though practically that is so disgusting, I can’t foresee any doctors in Idaho doing that. They would just deliver the baby and let the child die naturally. This would be so much better for the mother/family psychologically as well as physically, but legally it would be permitted IF the RFPA passed. Let’s keep fighting for kids like Ian!
