Spruce Kings Take Game 7 with a 3-1 Win
For the second time in two weeks, the Prince George Spruce Kings won game seven on home ice, knocking off the Chilliwack Chiefs 3-1 on Tuesday night at Kopar Memorial Arena.
After the teams traded chances throughout the first, the Chiefs opened the scoring late in the frame, as Boris Borin’s pass hit Dracen Campbell’s stick, then he batted the rebound through the legs of Colin Reay to make it 1-0 Chilliwack.
In the middle frame, the Spruce Kings tried to find their opportunities and Ben Vreugdenhil had the best chance, but it got blocked as he was looking at an open net.
In the final two minutes, Spencer Masters got a gift off the goal post from an errant Chiefs pass and put the third attempt under the bar to tie the game.
Early in the third, Vreugdenhil held the line and fired the puck towards the goal, then River Arnason made a move in tight to try and tuck the puck home but it wouldn’t go. Mason Loewen followed it up to tuck the puck over the line which survived video review and gave the Spruce Kings a 2-1 lead.
As the Spruce Kings held on, the Chiefs pulled their netminder, but just after, Michael Denney pushed it away from a defender and won the race, putting the puck into the net to give the Spruce Kings the 3-1 lead and seals the series.
The Spruce Kings advance to the Coastal Conference Final against the Nanaimo Clippers, with Game 1 on Friday at 7:00 pm and Game 2 on Saturday at 6:00 pm.
