Goldie Hawn Reveals That 'Freedom' Is the Key To Her Long-Lasting Romance With Kurt Russell
Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell are one of Hollywood’s most enduring couples, and there is a secret to their longevity.
The dynamic duo, who have been together since 1984, don’t view themselves as the definition of #couplegoals — Hawn just thinks they are “the right match” because of the “freedom” they offer each other.
“When I say freedom, it means liberation. I don’t feel penned in,” the 80-year-old actress told People. “We don’t always agree on stuff, which is fine. We’re both very spontaneous. [Our relationship] fed on a lot of goodness, a lot of wonderful life together.”
The word “freedom” might raise some eyebrows amongst fans because there’s been speculation for years that Hawn and Russell have an open relationship. She addressed the monogamy topic in a May 2017 interview with People.
“Monogamy is a very tough order,” she explained. “You’re in the prime of your life, you are attracted to other people, potentially, you have fantasies about that. It really runs the risk, if you will, if you’re not aware that you could maybe screw up a really good thing by doing that.”
Hawn knew from the start that Russell “wasn’t a womanizer,” but she was realistic about the temptations of Hollywood. “I’m sure I’ve been party to it, and Kurt’s been—we’re all normal this way,” she added. “…I mean, come on. We’re human beings. There is, I guess, an elasticity to the relationship. Otherwise, it’s going to break, just like a rubber band.”
The First Wives Club star didn’t really answer the question, but she’s admitted that her 42-year romance is still burning brightly.
In January, she described her 75-year-old life partner as an “amazing person” on The Dan Buettner Podcast. The host got an earful about how she’s “very sexually attracted” to Russell.
“If you have a long-term sexual relationship, that’s actually very healthy,” Hawn continued. “So, he’s my sexual object, and he is the person that makes me laugh, and he’s so smart. He’s such a great actor. And I find him incredibly handsome to this day.”
Hawn is giving rare insight into her romance with Russell; it’s still sizzling hot — just don’t ask for a direct response about monogamy. It’s none of our business.
