Rory McIlroy, Matt Fitzpatrick, 3 Others Won't Play the Cadillac Championship This Weekend
Five of the best golfers in the world won't be competing at the Cadillac Championship this weekend, despite this being one of the PGA Tour's signature events.
The PGA Tour recently took heat after scheduling three signature events in a four-week span between The Masters and the PGA Championship. The decision forced some of the world's best golfers to rethink their schedule, either winding down from the Masters or preparing for the PGA Championship instead of playing signature events.
That was the case right after the Masters when Rory McIlroy opted to skip the RBC Heritage. This weekend the Cadillac Championship takes center stage, but a few familiar faces won't be competing.
Cadillac Championship Won't See Rory McIlroy, Others
McIlroy is taking an extended break from competition after securing his second straight Masters victory, missing the RBC Heritage, Zurich Classic and now the Cadillac Championship. He will, however, tee it up at the Truist Championship next weekend.
The six-time major champion isn't the only one missing the Cadillac Championship this weekend, though.
When the PGA Tour announced the field several star golfers were missing including Ludvig Aberg, Xander Schauffele, Robert MacIntyre and Matt Fitzpatrick.
Following a 10-year hiatus, the PGA TOUR returns to Trump National Doral’s Blue Monster in Miami, Florida for the inaugural Cadillac Championship.

Of the four, only Fitzpatrick participated in last weekend's Zurich Classic, which he won with younger brother Alex Fitzpatrick, who earned his PGA Tour card with the win.
Ironically, Matt Fitzpatrick isn't playing this weekend, but fresh off of earning his card, Alex Fitzpatrick will be in the field.
While some of the world's best won't compete at the event this weekend, there are still plenty of big names teeing it up. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, fan favorite Tommy Fleetwood and master of the scramble Jordan Spieth are just a few of the elite players in the world playing this weekend.
