‘It cannot be bad luck’ – Tottenham hierarchy urged to order investigation into injury crisis by former manager

Tim Sherwood has issued a stark warning to the Tottenham Hotspur hierarchy regarding the relentless injury crisis currently engulfing the club, urging the north London club to investigate the injury crisis.

Four ACL injuries since 2025 are far from usual in modern-day football, but that has been the story of Tottenham Hotspur over the last year.

There is no denying that when it comes to luck, Spurs are by far the unluckiest team in the Premier League, and they have their injuries to thank for that.

Xavi Simons became the latest to suffer such a gut-wrenching injury when he went down in the clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Initially thought to be nothing serious, the Dutchman, who attempted to run off the blow, was eventually stretchered off.

Recent reports have now confirmed that Simons – after suffering an ACL injury – is expected to miss the rest of the season and the World Cup, with a return pencilled in for next year.

Taking to social media, the heartbroken Spurs number seven wrote: “They say life can be cruel and today it feels that way. My season has come to an abrupt end and I’m just trying to process it. Honestly, I’m heartbroken. None of it makes sense.

“All I’ve wanted to do is fight for my team and now the ability to do that has been snatched away from me… along with the World Cup. Representing my country this summer… just gone. It will take time to find peace with this, but I will continue to be the best team-mate I can be.

“I have no doubt that together we will win this fight. I will walk this path now, guided by faith, with strength, with resilience, with belief, as I count down the days to getting back out there. Be patient with me. TTP. COYS.”

Tottenham injury crisis sparks Tim Sherwood response

Spurs will now have to continue their battle for Premier League survival without the Dutchman, who was starting to find some form under Roberto De Zerbi.

De Zerbi had claimed that he and Simons were beginning to build a connection, but the 23-year-old now remains unavailable for selection.

The latest blow, with Simons going off after Dominic Solanke appeared to suffer a hamstring injury, leaves Spurs with 11 players sidelined ahead of their crucial trip to Villa Park this weekend.

Tottenham looked to have been down to five players ahead of their trip to Wolves, but their injury crisis has continued to worsen.

Former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood has now called for the club to investigate the situation, explaining his concerns about the nature and frequency of the injuries while speaking to Sky Sports.

He said: “Injuries have derailed Tottenham all season, and it cannot be bad luck. They need to review and have a good look at what is happening to their players because we can all get injured from contact, but a lot of these injuries are not contact.

“They are twists and soft tissue injuries. And ultimately, it looks like they might have to pay the price for it, the ultimate price, which is relegation.

“If you are a manager, you are going in, your players – some of your best players – keep getting injured and you cannot get them back to fitness.

“Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison, it has been a long time since they have been injured. So they are going to need a good look at that in the summer.”

Spurs must find solutions amid growing injury list

De Zerbi will need to get creative as he searches for solutions to his injured stars with four games left this season.

Sadly for the Italian, the three players he had looked to rely on have since picked up injuries, with Mohammed Kudus the first to go down.

In the last two weeks, De Zerbi had demanded more from both Dominic Solanke and Xavi Simons, and now both are injured. Club captain Cristian Romero is also out for the rest of the season, which is a major blow.

De Zerbi had made it clear that he wanted a more consistent line-up, but with players continuing to drop out, that now looks increasingly unlikely.
