Russia Envoy Kabulov Holds Talks in Kabul
Russia’s special envoy Zamir Kabulov visits Kabul for talks with Taliban officials, focusing on regional cooperation and security concerns.
Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s special representative for Afghanistan, has arrived in Kabul for consultations with Taliban officials on political, economic, and regional issues.
Russian media reported that Kabulov is expected to hold “consultative meetings” on Tuesday, focusing on expanding bilateral and multilateral cooperation and strengthening regional engagement involving Afghanistan.
The Taliban foreign ministry confirmed the visit, saying Kabulov will meet Amir Khan Muttaqi and other senior officials to discuss a range of topics, including political developments and economic ties.
Russian officials have repeatedly expressed concern about the presence of extremist groups, including Islamic State Khorasan Province, which they say could pose risks to regional stability and neighboring countries.
Countries in Central Asia, including Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, have also raised alarms about potential cross-border threats and the spread of militant networks from Afghanistan territory.
Regional security concerns have intensified following a series of attacks attributed to ISIS-K, prompting increased coordination among neighboring states and renewed calls for counterterrorism cooperation.
The Taliban authorities, however, have consistently rejected claims about the presence of foreign militant groups in Afghanistan, insisting that they do not allow any group to use Afghanistan soil to threaten other countries.
