15 duels won, 4 tackles: 87-touch star was Man Utd's standout player vs Brentford, better than Fernandes
Manchester United secured a 2-1 Premier League win over Brentford at Old Trafford last night.
The Red Devils went into the game with a 100 percent home record against the Bees in the Premier League and extended that run with a slender victory.
United raced into a 2-0 lead at the interval after goals from Casemiro and Benjamin Sesko.
The Bees pulled one goal back in the 87th minute, but the Red Devils held on to pick up another win.
There were several standout performers last night. Bruno Fernandes stepped up once more and registered his 19th league assist this term.
However, Casemiro was probably the best player on the pitch yesterday.
Casemiro continued his exceptional end-of-season form with another headed goal. He netted his ninth of the league season with a trademark finish.
Aside from his goal, the Brazilian star was exceptional defensively throughout 90 minutes. He won a staggering 15 out of 17 duels contested.
He also made nine clearances and won four tackles, with three recoveries. The midfielder lost possession nine times but made up for it with defensive contributions.
Casemiro’s form has been quite sensational since the confirmation that he would depart the club at the expiry of his contract this summer.
The 34-year-old has played with a point to prove, and the Red Devils will sorely miss him due to his allround contributions in recent months.
United have a big void to fill when Casemiro leaves, considering they need someone to provide goal involvements and defend from the no.6 role.
The club are aware of the monumental task ahead and could pursue more than one midfielder when the transfer window reopens later this summer.
Meanwhile, United have secured 61 points from 34 matches and could qualify for the Champions League before the huge derby against Liverpool at home on Sunday.
If Brighton & Hove Albion (50) and Bournemouth (49) drop points this weekend, United will be assured of their return to the elite European competition after two seasons.
