Arteta takes sigh of relief as new Kai Havertz injury update has emerged
Mikel Arteta’s side successfully managed to get a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United on Saturday to keep their Premier League title dreams alive.
Eberechi Eze broke the deadlock early with a stunning strike in the ninth minute, beautifully assisted by Kai Havertz.
But the celebrations were quickly muted. Just past the half-hour mark, Havertz went down off the ball, clutching his upper leg.
Looking visibly distressed and dejected, the 26-year-old German international was forced off the pitch and replaced by Viktor Gyökeres.
Kai Havertz suffers injury for Arsenal
To understand the panic, you have to look at Havertz’s brutal injury luck this season. He was sidelined for a staggering 32 games after undergoing knee surgery back in August, and he recently battled through another muscle issue in February.
However, just when everyone feared his campaign was completely over, Arsenal have received a major boost.
According to The Athletic, initial fears of a severe injury have been entirely alleviated.
Arteta himself offered a calming update after the final whistle, stating that the issue “didn’t look too big” and referring to both Havertz’s and Eze’s respective knocks as “small niggles”.
German attacker is expected to come back soon
So, when will we see him back on the pitch? The immediate timeline is still a bit blurry.
It is highly unlikely that Havertz will be risked for Arsenal’s massive Champions League semi-final first leg against Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid this Wednesday but the German is expected to return soon.
As Arsenal remain locked in an intense title battle with Manchester City, Arteta is going to need every ounce of firepower available.
Knowing that their versatile German forward hasn’t played his last game of the campaign is the exact kind of injury boost the Gunners needed to keep pushing for Premier League glory.
