Netflix Now Streaming All 7 Seasons of 'Rescue Me' 15 Years After Being Canceled
Netflix creates over 700 original titles each year with new series and movies hitting seemingly every week.
The largest streaming platform in the United States, though, adds to its content with licensing agreements with other networks to provide ample selections for its customers.
One of those agreements is bringing a beloved dark comedy to Netflix.
'Rescue Me' Now Streaming on Netflix
Earlier this month the entertainment world learned that beloved comedy drama series Rescue Me would be hitting the streaming platform. On April 26, the iconic show hit Netflix in the United States and the United Kingdom.
The show stars Denis Leary, who received three Emmy nominations playing Tommy Gavin, an alcoholic, drug-addicted New York firefighter fighting much more than just fires.
"He talks to his cousin, Jimmy, who died at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, and he's seeing ghosts of other victims, too," reads a synopsis from Rotten Tomatoes. "Spotlighting Denis Leary as Gavin, a temperamental alcoholic whose self-destructive behavior has cost him his family, the series revolves around the daily drama associated with being a firefighter in post-9/11 New York, and how the men of 62 Truck use dark humor to color their true feelings."
'Rescue Me' Reaction and Ratings
Forbes wrote over a decade ago that the show remains television’s best Post-9/11 drama.
"Through extremely crass but interesting characters working at the fictional 62 Truck of Engine Company 99 of the FDNY, audiences were given their first real look at how human the people – first-responders especially – directly affected by the tragedy really were," Forbes wrote.
Rescue Me receive high marks from critics on Rotten Tomatoes:
- Season 1: 88%
- Season 2: 100%
- Season 3: 82%
- Season 4: 90%
- Season 5: 95%
- Season 6: 93%
- Season 7: 74%
The show received an 8.3 out of 10 from fans on iMDB.
