Trump Says Iran Can Call U.S. Directly to Restart Talks
Donald Trump said Iran can directly contact the United States if it wants to reduce tensions and restart negotiations, signaling a shift toward faster diplomatic engagement.
Speaking to Fox News, Trump said Tehran could “call or come directly,” adding that secure communication channels are available and more effective than long diplomatic travel.
His remarks come as uncertainty surrounds recent indirect talks involving Iran and the United States in Islamabad, where progress appears to have stalled.
Trump confirmed he had instructed U.S. envoys to cancel a planned visit to Islamabad, indicating Washington is reassessing its approach to negotiations.
Recent diplomatic efforts have involved regional mediators, including Pakistan and Oman, aiming to ease tensions following military escalation and disputes over Iran’s nuclear program.
Key disagreements remain over uranium enrichment, sanctions relief, and regional security concerns, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump also criticized NATO, saying he was disappointed with alliance support and burden-sharing during recent crises.
Despite stalled talks, Trump said he believes the conflict involving Iran could end soon and expressed confidence that the United States would achieve a favorable outcome.
