Wilcox wants him: Man Utd target 26yo midfielder to replace Casemiro
Manchester United have reportedly added another exciting name to their transfer shortlist ahead of a crucial summer rebuild.
According to the Guardian, Man United have identified Atalanta midfielder Ederson to replace Casemiro.
The five-time UEFA Champions League winner is expected to depart Old Trafford when his contract expires at the end of June.
Ederson is reportedly valued between £35 million and £45 million, with his current deal running until June 2027.
Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, Aurelien Tchouameni, Joao Gomes and Alex Scott are other midfielders linked with a move to the Theatre of Dreams.
While all are impressive options, Ederson may hold a key advantage due to the admiration of United’s Director of Football, Jason Wilcox.
Wilcox remains one of the most influential figures within United’s hierarchy, meaning his opinion could carry significant weight in the club’s final decision.
United have held a long-term interest in Ederson, and they were first linked with the player during the summer of 2024.
The 26-year-old is a natural defensive midfielder and has delivered another solid campaign in Italy.
He has made 26 league appearances for Atalanta, who currently look set to miss out on qualification for European football next season.
He boasts an impressive 89% passing accuracy while averaging more than five recoveries and two tackles per game.
At the quoted price, Ederson could prove to be a smart and sensible signing for United.
The Red Devils are expected to recruit at least two midfielders this summer, and securing Ederson early could allow them the financial freedom to splash out on a marquee second addition.
