Cesc Fabregas breaks silence on Chelsea job after Como chief gives green light
Cesc Fabregas has been linked with a return to Chelsea as their head coach.
The Blues are looking for a new manager after sacking Liam Rosenior earlier this week.
Rosenior lasted less than four months at Stamford Bridge after losing five consecutive Premier League matches without scoring.
Calum McFarlane has been handed the interim role until the end of the season.
Fabregas, who played as a midfielder for the West Londoners between 2014 and 2019, is said to be admired by the Blues.
But the Spaniard dismissed the links and insisted he is only focused on Como for the remainder of the campaign.
Speaking to the media ahead of Sunday’s away clash at Genoa, Fabregas said: “Nothing to say about that.
“It’d be stupid to think about that now, my focus is on the next game against Genoa. I believe I will continue my chapter as Como head coach and focus on the next games.”
This comes after Como president Mirwan Suwarso said he will not stand in Fabregas’ way if he wished to join Chelsea.
Suwarso told City AM: “If that makes him happy, that’s him. You want your employees to stay with you for as long as possible but at the end of the day we don’t own him and he’s free to go to Chelsea if he wishes.”
Chelsea had originally planned to back Rosenior even if the club failed to secure Champions League qualification.
But they were forced to change their stance following the disastrous run of results in recent weeks.
Rosenior also publicly attacked his players, which made his position almost untenable.
Fabregas has done an impressive job at Como since taking over as head coach in July 2024.
The Spanish boss led his side to a 10th place league finish in his debut season.
Como have done even better under Fabregas this campaign, as they are on course to secure European qualification.
The Blue and Whites are currently sixth in Serie A standings, with five points behind fourth-placed Juventus.
Chelsea are also said to be considering Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva and Edin Terzic as possible replacements for Rosenior.
