Anthony Edwards Injured - What Happened to the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Star?

The Minnesota Timberwolves entered Saturday's game against the Denver Nuggets with a 2-1 series lead in their best-of-seven playoff series. Everything should be on the up-and-up for the Wolves, but the team had some devastating injury luck in the first half of Saturday's Game 4.

Anthony Edwards went down with a knee injury near the end of the half, coming down in extreme pain right under the basket. Edwards needed assistance to leave the floor and is still being looked at in the locker room. He had 5 points when he left the game.

Edwards is the engine that drives the Wolves. Without his scoring, the team will need a lot of extra scoring output from Julius Randle, Naz Reid, and the rest of their starters. Rudy Gobert is vital to the team's efforts, but is much more of a defensive specialist.

Edwards already missed 21 regular-season games this year, with the worst injury being a sore knee that took him out of several games in March and April. He had looked a lot healthier during this series with the Nuggets.

Unfortunately, Edwards wasn't the only player on the team who left early with an injury. Donte DiVincenzo left the game and was seen in a wheelchair after suffering what looked to be a lower leg injury. Some speculated that DiVincenzo's injury looked like an Achilles tear.

Edwards was third in the NBA in regular-season scoring, averaging 28.8 points per game for a Wolves team that finished sixth in the Western Conference. The team has been one of the most successful in the league the last two seasons, with consecutive Western Conference Finals appearances. They won 49 games this season.

The Wolves have had a lot of playoff success against the Nuggets, specifically when they knocked them off 4-3 in the second round of the playoffs in 2024. The teams look poised to compete in a long series once again, but the absences of Edwards and DiVincenzo will make it harder for Minnesota to win the series.
