Poll: Will the Phillies make the playoffs?
The Phillies have lost 10 games in a row for the first time since 1999.
They have not played well in any facet of the game. The starting rotation will receive a boost on Saturday when Zack Wheeler returns, but the group as a whole has not pitched deep into games. The new-look bullpen has been overworked and hit hard with injuries. The offense and defense has been brutal to say the least.
Philadelphia’s playoff odds have dropped from 68.8% on Opening Day to 33.4%, according to FanGraphs. It’s not looking good for a team that has made the playoffs in four straight years.
But there is some hope. As Scott Lauber of the Philadelphia Inquirer pointed out, 13 teams have made the playoffs even with an 8-18 stretch at some in the season. The 2024 Phillies went 8-18 from July 12 to Aug. 13. Those Phillies, however, were 61-32 with a 9.5-game lead in the NL East when that extended stretch of poor play begin.
Entering play on April 25, the 2026 Phillies are 10.5-games back in the NL East and seven games out of the final wild card spot in the National League. They are in sole possession of the worst record in MLB.
