Nancy Guthrie Update: Evidence Shows She May Have Coughed Up Blood
Tucson matriarch Nancy Guthrie's blood droplets were found on her front porch. It's a disturbing detail, and it's one of the only pieces of forensic evidence that authorities have revealed.
Early on, after Guthrie disappeared on February 1, the Pima County Sheriff, Chris Nanos, said in a news conference that the DNA analysis of the blood was rushed, and it did match Nancy's DNA. Sheriff's officials have also said that additional DNA evidence is still being analyzed in the mysterious case, and they also have hair evidence. Guthrie, the mother of TODAY Show co-host Savannah Guthrie, was snatched from her home by a masked and armed suspect who was captured in photos taken by the camera attached to her front door.
Now, a former FBI profiler has developed a troubling theory about Guthrie's blood and what it means.
The Expert Believes That Nancy Guthrie Was 'Coughing' Up Blood
The expert is retired FBI profiler Jim Clemente, who spoke to Brian Entin Investigates.
In that appearance, Clemente offered some theories about the blood evidence, and they are disturbing. After analyzing videos of the crime scene, he determined that Guthrie was likely coughing the blood up.
“Medium velocity (blood spatter) can be created when somebody actually aspirates blood and then coughs it up,” he said to Entin. “You can see three circular blood spots, but they are hollow. You see mainly the rings. This definitely came from her (Guthrie). She coughed it out. It kind of went out in different directions.”
He painted a chilling scene of a suspect carrying Guthrie, 84, at one point, saying, “Where that blood pattern disappears, I believe she was likely picked up and carried the rest of the way, perhaps with her face up so that there was no more blood deposited on that walkway.”
Authorities have not confirmed these theories.
The Former FBI Profiler Believes There Was Only 1 Suspect

Clemente also developed a theory about the suspect. He believes there was only one suspect, not multiple as some people have theorized. The door cam photos previously released by the FBI did show only one suspect, who authorities believe was a man. The motive and suspect identity have not been determined as the case morphs into its 81st day.
“If there were two people, you would think one of them would have control of her, complete control of her inside the house and brought her outside and would not have lost that control,” Clemente told Entin. “But here, she’s clearly on the ground coughing this blood up.”
“There’s no evidence to me that there are more than one offender here. If there was three different shoe print patterns in the blood stains … that would tell me something. I don’t see it. I’m not aware of that evidence," he added.
