Oscar-Nominated Actor Leaves White Lotus Season 4 Days After Shooting
Despite the entire cast of The White Lotus season four coming together and already set to film, one of the main actors everyone was excited to see join the The White Lotus universe has walked out.
The White Lotus season 4 is set in France, filming in the Airelles Château de la Messardière in Saint-Tropez, despite HBO’s marketing partnership with the Four Seasons hotel chain. And while filming is already underway, one of the original actors who signed on has left. That’s right, Oscar-nominated actress Helena Bonham Carter has left production.
While she signed on for the show back in Jan 2026, this week, she is no longer attached.

“With filming just underway on season four of The White Lotus, it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set,” an HBO spokesperson said to E! News. “The role has subsequently been rethought, is being rewritten and will be recast in the coming weeks.”
Despite this, the HBO team remains “ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon.”
It’s unclear what could have possibly happened to have not only the character scrapped and rewritten, but also have Carter still leave. Season four may just be starting, but it seems to be starting on a very rocky note.
