‘They want us down’ – Tottenham fans left fuming by latest Premier League announcement

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have reacted with a mixture of anger and resignation following an admission from the Premier League’s Key Match Incidents (KMI) panel that a pivotal decision went against the club during their recent defeat against Sunderland.

Many Tottenham Hotspur fans will be biting their nails as their club continues its fight to beat the drop this season.

For the first time since 1970, Spurs’ Premier League status has come under significant threat as they sit in the bottom three, two points adrift of safety.

Every single point counts at this stage of the season, and the margin for error is incredibly slim with only five games left to go.

Tottenham fans react to Brian Brobbey KMI admission after Cristian Romero injury

Roberto De Zerbi is the latest manager to take charge of Tottenham as they continue their fight to beat the drop. The former Brighton manager has overseen two games since his appointment, neither of which has been free of chaos.

In his first outing, Spurs lost their captain, Cristian Romero, to injury after Brian Brobbey pushed him into Antonin Kinsky during the 1-0 defeat to Sunderland.

That challenge has sparked split opinion over whether a sending-off was warranted. While Brobbey was not dismissed during the game, the Premier League’s key match incidents (KMI) panel has since ruled that he should have received a second booking, despite former referee Dermot Gallagher backing the on-field decision by Rob Jones.

Tottenham fans have reacted angrily to the latest admission, with one supporter stating: “Bit late now ain’t it lads”, while another added: “Great so what we gonna do with that @FA_PGMOL gonna give us points? No? F**k you”. A third commented: “So it is confirmed they want us down this ain’t fair”, and another wrote: “Great stuff thanks, knowing it will help in the Championship”.

Further reactions continued in a similar tone, with one fan saying: “I will take two pens for Spurs and a Wolves sending off as a start towards our compensation”, while another dismissed the review entirely: “These ‘oopsies poopsies’ reviews after the fact help nobody. It is all performative to cover the bad refereeing”.

One more added: “Everyone thought this except the people making the decision”, while another concluded: “Disgusting officiating throughout the game. Too late now, he should have been off the pitch with two yellows before that even happened. Injured our captain out for the rest of the season and possibly the World Cup, and also our goalkeeper.”

Spurs cannot afford more refereeing setbacks in relegation fight

Tottenham fans have every reason to feel hard done by, as this is not the first time they have been on the wrong end of a poor refereeing decision.

They have already seen inconsistencies in decision-making at various points this season, with similar incidents judged differently by match officials.

Randal Kolo Muani’s push on Gabriel in the north London derby was ruled a foul, while a near-identical one by Hugo Ekitike on Cristian Romero was deemed legal.

These fine margins could prove costly as Spurs fight for survival, and may yet be looked back on as decisive in determining whether they remain in the Premier League or drop into the Championship next season
