'Don't Worry Darling' is now available to watch at home — here's how to stream the thriller starring Harry Styles and Florence Pugh

"Don't Worry Darling," the highly anticipated psychological thriller, is now available to watch at home. The movie marks the first leading role for pop star Harry Styles and the second directorial effort from filmmaker Olivia Wilde ("Booksmart").  You can stream the movie on HBO Max, or buy it from retailers like Amazon, Vudu, and Apple TV.

"Don't Worry Darling" tells the story of Alice and Jack Chambers, a young couple in the 1950s who live in the picture-perfect town of Victory, a community built and funded by the company Jack works for. Alice soon becomes fixated on the nature of Jack's work on the top-secret Victory Project, with her discoveries causing tension in the town. Despite being warned against questioning the community's idyllic life, Alice seeks to uncover the true nature of her "utopia."

Florence Pugh ("Midsommar") plays the lead role of Alice opposite Harry Styles ("Dunkirk") as Jack. The cast also includes Chris Pine ("Star Trek"), Gemma Chan ("Crazy Rich Asians"), Nick Kroll ("Big Mouth"), and director Olivia Wilde ("House").

Despite behind-the-scenes controversy fueling anticipation for "Don't Worry Darling," the movie debuted at the Venice Film Festival to mostly negative reviews. As of November 7, "Don't Worry Darling" has a low "38%" score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the movie may still be worth a watch for fans of the lead actors, Wilde's directorial style, and psychological thrillers in general.

How to watch 'Don't Worry Darling'

"Don't Worry Darling" is now available to watch on HBO Max. The movie hit the service on November 7, just 45 days after it arrived on the big screen.

HBO Max costs $10 a month with ads or $15 a month without ads. The ad-free plan also adds support for 4K streaming and the ability to download titles to watch offline. If you have the ad-free plan, you can stream "Don't Worry Darling" in up to 4K quality with Dolby Vision high dynamic range contrast and Dolby Atmos sound.

The HBO Mas app is available on smart TVs, mobile devices, and media players from most major brands. Check the HBO Max website for a full list of supported devices.

Can I rent or buy 'Don't Worry Darling' without a subscription?

"Don't Worry Darling" is available to buy or rent through digital retailers like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Vudu, and YouTube.The movie costs $25 to purchase or $20 to rent, and these options do not require an additional subscription fee.

If you purchase "Don't Worry Darling" you'll be able to stream it whenever you like with no restrictions. Meanwhile, with a rental you only get 30 days to start watching the movie and then 48 hours to finish it after you hit play.

Keep in mind, however, that the current rental price carries a premium since the movie is still playing in theaters. If you don't mind waiting, the rental price is expected to drop from $20 to around $6 in the coming months.

When will 'Don't Worry Darling' be available on Blu-ray?

"Don't Worry Darling" will be released on Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, and DVD on November 29. You can preorder the film now from retailers like Amazon. 

The Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray discs will also include a digital copy code you can use to redeem a streaming version of the film. 

Is 'Don't Worry Darling' based on a book?

"Don't Worry Darling" is not based on a book, but rather a spec script originally written by Shane and Carey Van Dyke. The script was then rewritten for the official screenplay by Katie Silberman, who also co-wrote Wilde's "Booksmart."

Though not directly based on any pre-existing stories, reviews for "Don't Worry Darling" have compared it to hit psychological dramas and thrillers like "The Stepford Wives," "The Truman Show," and "Black Mirror."
