QUEEN’S PARK FC is excited to welcome pupils from St Joseph’s Primary School to our weekend match with Dunfermline Athletic.
And the schoolchildren seem just as excited to be our latest Tickets for Schools partners.
Midfielder Roddy Macgregor paid a visit to the school, in Busby, this week ahead of their trip to The city Stadium for Saturday afternoon’s match action.
Our first-team star hosted a question and answer session with primaries five, six and seven who had ALL done their homework.
Head teacher Mrs Martin had too – and knew all about Roddy’s seven yellow cards this season!
Roddy revealed who he’d voted for as Queen’s Park player of the year, why he chose football over rugby and what he eats in the build-up to a match to be in peak condition to perform.
Then he HAD to perform.
Roddy was challenged by a talented trio from P7 to a keepy-up competition with a difference. Primary pupils Peter Bree and Michael O’Donnell took him on with a football, while golfer Owen Carr kept up a GOLF BALL in front of the upper school.
Pupils even persuaded the Spiders star to stay on for a kick-about on the football pitch after the bell where the 24-year-old signed more autographs as he looked forward to seeing them all again on the southside this Saturday.
Roddy said: “It was great fun meeting the kids – I wasn’t expecting to have to do some keepy-ups, and was glad I wasn’t doing the golf ball challenge!
“The questions were great, there were some tough ones in there and it was nice to see them enjoying their football at the end of school.
“I look forward to seeing them again on Saturday and will do my best to get on the scoresheet and do the celebration they kids have asked for.”
Head of commercial at Queen’s Park, Kieran Koszary added: “What a wonderful way to sign off our fifth season of Tickets for Schools. Roddy was fantastic and so were the schoolkids and staff – it was a pleasure to visit St Joseph’s.
“We look forward to welcoming them to The city Stadium and of course, none of this would be possible without the support of our external sponsor, and of our travel partner McDade’s Coaches. We are very grateful to them, to the players taking part and to the schools who have been fantastic to work with this season.”
