Hibs Academy Visit Owen Gibb And Sons For Construction Insight
Club partners, Owen Gibb and Sons welcomed the Hibernian Academy to their Howe Street site to give the squad an insight into the construction industry, as part of their educational programme.
The players in attendance were given valuable, hands-on experience with various tradesmen, including plumbers and joiners. Representatives of Owen Gibb and Sons explained their own individual roles within the business to the squad, before carrying out demonstrations on their day-to-day duties.
Members of the Academy squad were then given the opportunity to put some of the skills learned on the day to use, and were handed a number of construction-related tasks to complete throughout the course of their visit.
Hibernian Football Club’s Academy Operations Manager, Daniel Hiddleston, said: “The representatives of the Club’s Academy and I were delighted to arrange this visit to the Howe Street site.
“Experiences like this particular visit help our young players recognise the importance of transferrable skills, such as hard-work and teamwork – qualities that will be of benefit to them not only in football, but in later life.
“The professionalism and know-how of the Owen Gibb and Sons tradesmen ensured that the squad were able to gain real value from this visit, and learn a host of new skills which will be of great benefit throughout the course of their careers in the game and beyond.”
Founder of Owen Gibb and Sons, Owen Gibb, said: “From the perspective of the business, it’s hugely important to give the squad an opportunity to visit our Howe Street site and learn some valuable skills.
“There’s definitely a skills shortage in the trades, so this is a hugely beneficial opportunity for ourselves to showcase that, if for whatever reason things don’t work out for them in a footballing capacity, that there is alternative career paths out there to pursue.”
Thank you to Club partners, Owen Gibb and Sons for granting the Academy squad the opportunity to gain such valuable experience, and AAA Coaches for providing travel to-and-from Easter Road Stadium.
