Pakistan army says 22 militants killed in Khyber operation
Pakistan army says forces killed 22 militants in Khyber district, as security operations intensify amid rising insurgent attacks in northwest regions.
Pakistan Army said it killed 22 militants linked to Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan during an operation in the Khyber area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The army said weapons and ammunition were seized, adding that a 10-year-old child was killed in firing by militants during the clashes.
Officials described the militants as hostile elements, using terminology often employed by Islamabad to refer to TTP fighters.
TTP has intensified attacks in Pakistan’s border regions in recent years, targeting security forces and civilians, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
The group operates near the Afghanistan border, and Islamabad has repeatedly accused militants of using Afghanistan territory, a claim denied by the Taliban.
The military said counterterrorism efforts are continuing under a broader campaign aimed at stabilizing volatile regions and dismantling militant networks.
Official data shows hundreds of attacks recorded in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa last year, highlighting persistent insecurity despite ongoing operations.
