Re: Iwata and Paik
ZublueForeverFrancisLeithbluesWe literally won yesterday.
And not only that, Iwata has started our last three games in midfield - we've won 2 and got 7 points.
... Iwata is an excellent squad player and can play a role in games we want more physicality in centre mid. This thread is ridiculous
I agree he has been excellent in the last three games .
Posters putting he has no output and he gets bullied easily ?
They must watch different games to me , they should check out his heat map and the distance he runs .
He is non-stop and easily by a country mile the fittest player in that team( never injured) .He definitely isn't bullied he is like a little tank .
He isn't flash or super creative and he can be a little negative with his passing .
However he does all the work nobody is watching , breaking up play , covering runs , making tackles , being first to loose balls , making blocks.
He is the Didier Deschamp 'water carrier' in the side .
Could we get better ? Yes we could , you could say that about every player in the team .
He is not bad player though .He is a good physical defensive midfielder .
We could play him next year ? We could if you have the right player alongside him .Somebody who can really play , who can pass , drive the team forward while Iwata largely sits and allows him to play .
For me, centre midfield is the most important area on the pitch and if you haven’t got this area right the whole team suffers.
I really have nothing against Paik and Iwata, they are 2 honest hardworking midfielders BUT if we have any pretensions of getting promoted next season then I’m sorry but we need much better.
The best teams this year have had the best midfields, Cov with Rudoni and Grimes, Middlesboro with a goalscring progressive midfielder in Hackney. The Ipswich engine room is also one of the best in the championship.
In my opinion this is where we have failed. Our centre midfielders aren’t goal scorers, they haven’t got a change of pace, they don’t create chances, they don’t hit the box and we seem to leave massive gaps for the opposition to exploit.
Now this could be a lot to do with Davies’ tactics but if we want to move forward we need better.
What makes 30 year old Matt Grimes who has only scored 2 goals this season better than South Korea International Paik who has scored double the amount of goals in an inconsistent team set up?
It's not his fault hes had about 2 or 3 different partners next to him, none of which have found the net apart from Iwata last week.
Lets not rip up the team they say, only for people to want to rip up the team.
So you'd be quite happy to have Paik and Iwata start next season?
