Great Britain names 36-strong swimming team for European Aquatics Championships Paris 2026
The European Aquatics Championships 2026 in Paris is set to welcome one of the strongest British line-ups in recent memory, after Aquatics GB confirmed a list of 36 swimmers for the competition, blending proven Olympic pedigree with a new generation of rising talent.
The squad, selected following the recent Aquatics GB Swimming Championships in London, will arrive in Paris off the back of high-quality domestic racing and with a determination to equal or better their finish of third in the swimming medal table back in 2022’s edition of the competition in Rome.
At the forefront of the team is 17-time European champion Adam Peaty, who is making his return to European competition alongside a core of international gold medallists that has defined British success in recent years.
That group includes 7-time European champion James Guy, 10-time winner Duncan Scott, Matt Richards and Jack McMillan, all of whom featured in a standout men’s 200m freestyle showdown at the national championships. They are joined by Tom Dean, another Olympic champion, who returns after missing the trials through injury.
On the women’s side, recent performances point to a squad on the rise. Angharad Evans and Freya Colbert arrive in Paris after producing British record-breaking swims, signalling genuine medal prospects for the pair.
They are supported by an experienced and versatile group of European champions including Abbie Wood, Lauren Cox and nine-time champion Freya Anderson, reinforcing both individual depth and relay capability across multiple events.
The team consists of 23 men and 13 women, with many of whom making their debuts at a senior long course European championships.
One of those is rising star Filip Nowacki, who holds the European junior record in the men’s 200m breaststroke. He also took the British title in the event last week on his way to selection. Jack Skerry, a European U23 champion from last year, will also be looking to make a big impact in the French capital.
Athletes such as Jacob Mills, Amalie Smith and Theodora Taylor have also secured senior championship debuts, while further under-23 medallists Tyler Melbourne-Smith and Matthew Ward strengthen the team following impressive performances in London.
Backstroke specialist Oliver Morgan also arrives in form after completing a clean sweep of the backstroke events at the national championships for the third consecutive year.
As Europe’s elite converge on Paris, the British squad’s balance of experience and emerging talent positions them as a major force in what promises to be a highly competitive championships, with the swimming segment taking place from 10-16 August.
