Duke is losing Isaiah Evans but keeping Caleb Foster
By ADAM ZAGORIA
It’s that time of year when players make big decisions about their futures.
Whether to stay at their current school, hit the transfer portal or declare for the NBA Draft.
On Wednesday, Duke lost one player to the Draft in projected first-round pick Isaiah Evans, while retaining another in junior guard Caleb Foster, who played a critical role in helping the Blue Devils beat St. John’s in the Sweet 16 after returning from injury.
The 6-foot-6 Evans is the projected No. 22 pick in the Draft, per Tankathon.com, after averaging 15 points and 3 rebounds as a sophomore. He shot 43% from the field and 36% from deep. With his long, slim, athletic frame and ability to score from all three levels, he has all the makings of a 10-15 year pro.

The 6-5 Foster will return to campus after averaging 8.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists. He scored all 11 of his points, including seven straight, in the second half in an 80-75 come-from-behind win over St. John’s in the Sweet 16 after returning from foot surgery 20 days earlier.
“Still a little stunned with what happened, to be honest with you guys,” Duke coach Jon Scheyer said. “He had no business playing tonight. Ninety-nine percent of guys do not come back to play under the circumstances of what’s happened to him. It was incredible the way he willed us. There’s no analytics. There’s no stats that can measure how big this dude’s heart is for what he did.”
Duke big man Patrick Ngongba also announced this week he will return next season, while freshman point guard Cayden Boozer is also back. His twin brother Cam Boozer, the Wooden and Naismith Award winner, is a projected top-3 NBA pick.
The returnees will join the No.1-ranked recruiting class featuring five-star prospects Cameron Williams, Deron Rippey Jr, and Bryson Howard and four-star Maxime Meyer.
