What’s on this weekend

Nicosia

The capital is swimming in events this weekend, starting with the first Fork Food Market of the season. Returning to the Nicosia Municipal Gardens, a line-up of street food vendors and cocktail bars will set up stalls serving the city’s foodies from 6pm onwards. In the old town, the Andamoma of Cyprus Wine & Gastronomy event at BIGA Neapolitan Pizza will bring together wineries and eateries for a weekend of flavours and masterclasses. Head down to the pizzeria on Friday and Saturday.

Nicosia’s music selection this weekend includes a special guitar recital with the renowned French musician Edith Pageaud. Performing at The Shoe Factory on Friday night, the concert is part of the 20th EGTA Guitar Festival.

Audiences as young as five are in for a treat as the AG Leventis Gallery presents a family concert for infantson Sunday. The Prometheas String Quartet will perform spring melodies while young members of the audience engage with activities led by Rebecca Katsaris and Christina Charalambidou.

On Sunday, families can head to Athalassa Park to explore the connection between ecology and dance. The Green Steps programme presents a site-specific dance and music performance for children aged five to 11, exploring how nature speaks and how it connects to human life.

Film lovers can enjoy the ‘Is It Magic?’ screening series by STYX Film Encounters, which continues on Sunday nights. This week, Woody Allen’s The Purple Rose of Cairo will be presented at Pantheon Theatre at 5.30pm, with Greek and English Subtitles.

Throughout Sunday, from 11am to 6pm, the Misfit Sundays Car Boot Sale will fill the industrial area of Engomi with second-hand treasures. The outdoor sale finally makes its comeback, and 20 cars are taking part with unique second-hand items. Street food by the MU Kitchen and music by DJ Nicos Lazarou will add to the day.

French musician Edith Pageaud will perform in Nicosia

Also happening in Nicosia is the 5th Femme Fest Cyprus, which is bringing discussions and workshops, children’s corners, music performances, theatre, live podcast recordings and booths by organisations, collectives, and creators to Acropolis Park.

Limassol

At Limassol’s seafront Molos Promenade, the Heatwave Fitness Festival Vol.3 will gather fitness instructors, exercise lovers and beyond for two days of outdoor classes, wellness and music this Saturday and Sunday.

Before the weekend arrives though, renowned Greek comedian Katerina Vrana will present her brand-new show Xarika in front of Limassol audiences. Packed with hilarious stories, real-life experiences and witty commentary, Vrana will perform at Laniteio Theatre on Friday night, before heading to the capital for another show on Saturday night.

On Saturday night, Cypriot comedian Giorgos Kyriakou and Romanian comedian Bianca Lala will join forces to present their dark humour comedy show Bianca and the Beast. The two performers will step onto the stage of Sto Dromo bar for a set in both Cypriot and English.

Limassol’s weekend agenda ends with a night of jazz as the Limassol Jazz Syndicate performs songs from the golden era of the 20s to the 70s. The 12-piece big band, along with singer George Kalopedis, will perform live at the Music Hall this Sunday.

Paphos

A chamber music concert is on Thursday at Markideio Municipal Theatre sees the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra present a new concert with new featured musicians. The dynamic flute duo Duo Noïma (Virginie Bove and Eleni Kappa) teams up with the outstanding Cypriot pianist Rami Sarieddine to bring a special repertoire to life. The Chamber Music 5 concert will then travel to Nicosia on Friday for a show at Pallas Theatre.

Meanwhile, a group exhibition will run this weekend at Ibrahim’s Khan Art Gallery, curated by artist Elham Razani. The Beyond the Surface showcase includes the works of 22 artists presenting pieces from different art practices and genres. It is set to open on Friday at 7pm.

Larnaca

Vasiliou Gallery in Aradippou continues its Gallery Sessions event series, and this Saturday invites the all-female Aetherial Choir for a performance. The vocalists will present the acapella concert Paths Guided by Dreams, which audiences can enjoy with a glass of wine.

The Artichoke Festival will be held in Kiti

In Pyla, the CopsCats Spring Bazaar this Saturday will fill the animal charity centre with artists’ stalls. From 10am to 2pm, vendors will display their crafts, creations and second-hand items.

Finally, in Kiti village, the 7th Artichoke Festival will fill Archangel Michael Square with chefs creating dishes that have the artichoke as their main ingredient. Traditional and fusion dishes will explore the vegetable’s various flavours and combinations. Plus, there will be music, entertainment and drinks as the festival kicks off at 4pm on Sunday.
