He has also dazzled with his overlapping runs and has managed two successful dribbles per outing.

United need an attacking right-back to compete with Dalot, and Palestra would be an ideal signing, given his relatively young age and immense potential.

The Italian, who recently made his international debut, could be prised away for £26 million.

Dumfries would be a better short-term signing due to his big-game experience, but he is already 30 and may not have time to adapt to the league’s demands.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils may need to be proactive in pursuing Palestra, as Arsenal and Man City are also weighing up moves for the highly rated defender.
