In-N-Out's 2016 Menu Prices Go Viral: See How Much They've Increased Since Then

One thing that is true across every single aspect of current American life compared to 10 years ago is that things are more expensive now, and noticeably so.

Even the fast food industry, which prides itself on being convenient and affordable, has seen prices skyrocket over time. In-N-Out Burger is not the only chain that has gotten more expensive, but a photo of the company's prices from 2016 has been going viral on social media this week.

The times--and costs--are a changin'

In the picture from 2016, which can be seen below, In-N-Out's famous "Double-Double" costs only $3.70, with a cheeseburger going for $2.55 and a hamburger $2.35. An order of French fries is $1.70, with a milkshake costing $2.30.

"The only way to radicalize americans is to show them old hamburger price," said the person who shared the photo.

Customers weigh in

The photo has generated over one million views, and along with another one documenting In-N-Out's current menu ($6.35 Double-Double, $4.40 Cheeseburger etc.), has stirred up plenty of reaction on social media.

"They don’t even give you bag fries anymore. You used to get extra little fries at the bottom of your take out bag, now all you get are the fries you already paid for which just so happened to fall to the bottom of the bag. We used to be a real country," one person wrote.

"Compared to the competition they have decent prices and quality food and service are great," a Facebook commenter countered on a post comparing In-N-Out's current prices with those of 10 years ago.

"What's crazier is they pay their employees well," another Facebook poster added.

"I remember the $1 McDonald burger," another person said on X/Twitter.

"You can still get these prices if you just go to a non-chain burger joint. White Manna in NJ has some of the best burgers in the country and a double cheese burger is like $3.75," a fifth person said.

What does it mean?

To be clear, In-N-Out is not alone in becoming more costly. The company, which has been known for being affordable, explained one of its most recent price hikes following the passing of California's FAST Act in April 2024, which raised the minimum wage from $16 to $20.

"We continue to raise menu prices only when absolutely necessary, as we did on April 1 of this year in our California restaurants," In-N-Out owner and CEO Lynsi Snyder said in a statement at the time. "Providing the best value we can for our Customers has always been very important to us, and it will continue to be."
