New era at Chelsea could begin with surprise Tottenham transfer

Chelsea have parted ways with Liam Rosenior, and they could look to bring in Xabi Alonso as his replacement.

According to reports from Spain, Alonso has already asked the London club to strengthen their defensive unit by signing Micky van de Ven.

The Dutch international has been excellent for Tottenham, and he could prove to be a superb addition to the Chelsea defensive unit. The Blues have been quite poor at the back, and they need to improve defensively if they want to fight for major trophies once again.

Signing the 25-year-old central defender could be a wise decision. Apart from his defensive qualities, his recovery pace would add a new dimension to the Chelsea side. They would be able to deploy a highline with him in the team. The 25-year-old is quite impressive with his distribution as well, and he will help Chelsea build from the back.

However, signing him will not be easy. Spurs have no intention of letting the player leave. Chelsea might have to make a significant offer to convince them. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea follows up on their interest with an offer in the summer.

Tottenham is fighting for survival in the Premier League, and they could lose key players in the summer if they go down to the Championship.

Van de Ven will not want to compete in the second division of English football next season. He would like to compete at the highest level at the opportunity to join. Chelsea could be an attractive destination for him.
