Aston Villa Believe the Villa Park Partial Closure Next Season is the ‘Right Decision’
Aston Villa believes that their decision on the temporary partial closure of Villa Park next season is the right one ahead of EURO 2028.
The Lions are heading to the new season with a major plan off the pitch. As they are on the verge of returning to the Champions League next season, the club have also made up their mind to close down one side of Villa Park for renovation.
The aforementioned side is the North Stand, which is set to be inaccessible for the entire 2026/27 season. It is a part of their preparation ahead of EURO 2028, in which Villa Park has been selected as one of the host venues in England.
According to the reports in Birmingham Mail, Francisco Calvo, Aston Villa’s president of business operations, shares the reason behind their decision: “Temporarily reducing Villa Park’s capacity is not a decision we take lightly. However, it is the right decision and one that we have made with our supporters and the long-term future of the club at the heart of our thinking. By completing the redevelopment in one season, we reduce disruption, improve the Villa Park experience more quickly and ensure we are investing responsibly while remaining compliant with financial regulations.”
The major changes
In the 2026/27 campaign, Villa Park’s capacity will be reduced to 37,000 seats following the redevelopment of North Stand. The initial plan was to add the seats of the section which has been mainly occupied by the most vocal supporters up to 12,000, but it was meant to be completed at the end of 2027.
However, such a plan has been scrapped entirely, and the club recently has decided to break down the entire stand but leave the remaining structures. Such a method speeds up the construction duration significantly, as it is expected to be completed in summer 2027. At the beginning of the 2027/28 campaign, Villa Park will be relaunched with the new capacity of more than 50,000 people.
Apart from revamping the North Stand, the renovation will also include the redevelopment of the sporting facilities. The first-team dressing room will be widened to 500 square metres. Medical and physiotherapy facilities will also be redeveloped as well.
Impact on ticket holders?
The temporary closure of the North Stand for a whole year definitely affects the season ticket holders of the seats in that part of the stadium. The club is fully aware of it and has prepared a proper solution for them.
The club offers the affected season ticket holders the chance to renew their tickets at the same price level in the alternated selected stadium areas. Those with families can certainly be moved to new seats together.
These ticket holders will also be prioritised to book the similar or same seats in the newly renovated North Stand later in the 2027/28 season. Such would hopefully ease their disappointment in the expected situation.
