Morning Briefing: Mets’ Losing Streak Now at a Dozen

Good morning, Mets fans.

The Mets have now dropped their 12th straight game, falling to the Twins 5-3. Francisco Lindor opened the scoring with a three-run shot in the bottom of the third, but New York couldn’t add on and wasted another strong start from rookie Nolan McLean. McLean went 6 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs while striking out 10.

Devin Williams took the loss for New York, opening the ninth without recording an out and allowing five straight batters to reach (though he was only at fault for four, as one man reached on a sacrifice bunt). Austin Warren struck out three straight to stop the damage and give the Mets a fighting chance, but they went down in order in the bottom of the inning against Cole Sands.

It is the Mets’ longest losing streak since 2002 and tied for the sixth-longest in franchise history.

It was reported Tuesday that the Mets plan to call up Christian Scott to start on Thursday. Scott spent all of 2025 rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. In 2024, he posted a 4.56 ERA over 47 1/3 innings pitched. Thursday was supposed to be Kodai Senga‘s turn in the rotation, but his start will now be pushed to Saturday. MMO‘s Mathias Altman-Kurosaki was on the news as it came out.

Juan Soto will return to action today against the Twins after missing a little over two weeks with a calf strain.

The Phillies plan to start Zack Wheeler against the Braves this Saturday, Charlotte Varnes of The Athletic reports. Wheeler has been sidelined by a thoracic outlet surgery since August of 2025. Wheeler will look to help right the ship for a Phillies team that’s struggled nearly as much as the Mets. Philadelphia sits at 8-15, while New York is 7-16.

On Tuesday, the Braves placed reliever Raisel Iglesias on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation. The team also moved Spencer Strider and Sean Murphy’s rehab assignments up to Triple-A.

White Sox first baseman Munetaka Murakami homered for the fourth consecutive game, bringing his total for the 2026 season up to nine.
