FIFA sells final World Cup tickets, prices reach nearly $11,000 for final
FIFA releases final batch of World Cup 2026 tickets, with strong demand but mounting criticism over high prices and accessibility concerns.
FIFA said a new batch of tickets for all 104 matches of the 2026 World Cup will go on sale on Wednesday, marking the final sales phase before the tournament begins.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said more than five million tickets have already been sold, surpassing the previous record of 3.5 million set during the 1994 World Cup in the United States.
With matches spread across 16 stadiums, around seven million tickets are expected to be available in total, although demand has remained exceptionally strong.
However, ticket pricing has drawn widespread criticism, with the most expensive final tickets exceeding $10,000 under a dynamic pricing model that adjusts costs based on demand.
The 2026 World Cup will be the first edition to feature 48 teams, expanding from the traditional 32 and significantly increasing the number of matches and ticket demand.
Hosted jointly by United States, Canada and Mexico, the tournament is expected to be the largest in history in terms of attendance and global reach.
FIFA’s use of dynamic pricing has sparked debate, with critics arguing that rising costs are limiting access for ordinary fans and favouring wealthier spectators.
Despite concerns, FIFA maintains that overall demand remains high, although reports have suggested slower sales for some matches involving the host nation, claims the organisation disputes.
