The Prince George Spruce Kings fell 3-2 to the Chilliwack Chiefs on Tuesday night at the Chilliwack Coliseum, as their lead in the Rogers BCHL second round series was cut down to 2-1.
The opening period was scoreless and just 2:50 in, Boris Borin put the puck over the line on a goal mouth scramble with Colin Reay down and out trying to cover the puck.
Just 26 seconds later, Adam Boatter scored from the right side beating Reay with a shot as the Chiefs jumped to a 2-0 lead just 3:16 into the second period.
It took the Spruce Kings some time to get their legs back under them in the period, and were able to break the goose egg at 18:34 as Lucas Busch scored his fourth of the playoffs off a one-timer after Marcus Lougheed got the puck forward and Cooper Faughnan slipped behind the defense.
After some rough stuff early in the third lead to a double minor to Ozbej Rep that the Spruce Kings killed off, then Nico Grabas would put the Chiefs shorthanded after driving Dracen Campbell straight over Reay in his crease on a scramble, but Prince George couldn’t score.
The power play finally clicked for the Spruce Kings at 15:08 with Markuss Sieradzkis in the box for charging Reay when he went out to play the puck. Trent LeDrew and Lucas Busch picked up the assists as they found Faughnan at the left circle, and he cut in snapping a shot past David Di Girolamo to make it 3-2.
The Spruce Kings got Reay out for the extra attacker but couldn’t find the equalizer.
This result means there will be a Game 5 on Friday night at Kopar Memorial Arena. Tickets will go on sale at 9:00 am tomorrow at the Spruce Kings office and online at www.sprucekings.bc.ca/playoffs
