Netflix Quietly Adds Martin Short Movie Collection to Celebrate New Documentary
In the lead-up to the highly anticipated Martin Short documentary, Marty, Life is Short, Netflix is expanding its collection of films featuring the iconic Canadian comedian to its catalogue.
Per its official logline, the new doc follows the beloved comic "From breakout success on SCTV and Saturday Night Liveto scene-stealing roles in iconic films and a Tony-winning run on Broadway," as "one of comedy’s most inventive and enduring careers."
"Now a new documentary will take an in-depth look at his more than five decades in the spotlight," the description details, featuring "never-before-seen archival footage and exclusive interviews with a star-studded list of friends and collaborators to tell Short’s story."
In the lead-up to Life is Short's release on May 12, the streamer will be including new additions to its platform. So far, these include Father of the Bride and Father of the Bride Part II, as reported by New on Netflix. No exact date has been confirmed for the two comedies Short co-stars in with frequent collaborator Steve Martin, but they will arrive on Netflix in May, the same month as the new documentary.
The Father of the Bride movies, a '90s remake of the 1950 film of the same name, follows George Banks, a conservative businessman who lives with his wife, Nina (Diane Keaton), and prepubescent son, Matty (Kieran Culkin). George's world is turned upside down when his college-graduate daughter, Annie (Kimberly Williams), returns from her travels abroad and announces her impending nuptials. During the disastrous wedding planning, the Banks family meets a host of characters, including Franck Eggelhoffer (Short), an eccentric, camp-as-Christmas wedding planner.
The film will join other Martin Short titles on the streamer, such as the Netflix original stand-up special Steve Martin and Martin Short: An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life. Recently, Netflix had a Catherine O'Hara collection to honor the late actress, so keep your eyes peeled for more Short-centric titles coming soon.
