Netflix Quietly Plots Change to Streaming Service
Netflix is keeping up with modern trends with its latest announcement, which involves an update to its video feed by the end of April.
In a letter to shareholders, the streaming service announced that it will launch a TikTok-like vertical video feed inside its apps by the end of the month. The clips, the company said, will serve the purpose of improving content discovery. So, if you see your video feed suddenly look more like TikTok or Instagram, now you know why that's happening.
What Will the Netflix Change Offer?
"We are launching an updated mobile experience at the end of the month that includes a vertical video discovery feed," the company said in its letter. "This redesign will better reflect our expanding entertainment offering and make it easier for members to engage how and when they want."
While Netflix hasn't shared too much information about what users should expect from this experience, the streamer did say that it will be part of a new mobile interface that the company has been testing internally. It's also not expected to alter the feed to the point that users will be upset about the change.
"The short video feature could aid users with discovering video podcasts, along with the current slate of shows and movies," Tech Crunch notes in a piece about the change.
"We have been in personalization and recommendation for two decades, but we still see tremendous room to make it better by leveraging newer technologies," Gregory Peters, Netflix co-CEO, stated during the streaming company's first-quarter conference call.
He added, "Recommendation systems based on new model architectures not only improve current personalization but also let us iterate and improve more quickly — adding support for different content types much more efficiently."
According to Netflix's letter to shareholders, the streaming company has a reported revenue of $12.25 billion in Q1 2026, an increase of 16.2% year-over-year, and a profit of $5.28 billion, up 83%. Netflix also reported that it closed out 2025 with 325 million paying subscribers.
