Speculation surrounds JD Vance as his whereabouts remain unknown
The Trump administration issued conflicting accounts Tuesday regarding Vice President JD Vance's whereabouts and departure for Pakistan.
President Donald Trump told The New York Post early Tuesday that Vance was "heading over now" to Islamabad for a second round of Iran peace negotiations. However, CNN's Alayna Treene reported Vance was spotted at the White House on Tuesday afternoon, with a White House official confirming he remained in Washington.
Axios also claimed JD Vance was heading to the Middle East.
Trump claimed peace talks with Iran were "supposed to" happen, though Iranian officials have not committed to attending.
The White House announced plans for further Tuesday meetings in D.C., with Vance participating. Journalist Adam Cochran noted that Trump hosted an "emergency meeting" at the White House, with Vance's motorcade observed there, and a plane carrying other delegation members was redirected from Miami to Washington instead of Islamabad.
Political commentator Ben Panko questioned the repeated announcements of Vance's departure, suggesting ongoing confusion about the delegation's plans.
