M.M.LaFleur has a reputation for making stylish work clothes that take the guesswork out of getting dressed for the office. But with premium price tags, we wanted to know whether the brand's pieces are really worth it. So, we tested a bunch of M.M.LaFleur outfits at the office, wearing them through work days and assessing how they looked, felt, and functioned in real life.
Across dresses, suiting separates, and office-friendly basics, we paid close attention to their fit, comfort, fabric quality, and versatility. Overall, each item felt special enough for important meetings yet practical enough to wear on a long day.
Our favorite part about M.M.LaFleur: The details
M.M.LaFleur, Samantha Crozier/Business Insider
My overwhelming takeaway from testing the brand is how thoughtfully designed the pieces are. Just a few examples: many pant styles have adjustable hems that let you switch between a crop and full-length, tops and dresses have snaps on the shoulders to keep your bra straps in place, and pieces made with the brand's signature OrigamiTech material won't wrinkle in your suitcase. These highly practical details show how well the brand understands what women's workwear should really feel like.
If you're wondering why the M.M.LaFleur is on the pricer side, the materials and details are why we feel it's worth the cost. The pieces that stood out most weren't necessarily the trendiest, but the ones that felt polished, comfortable, and classic. That's ultimately where the brand makes its case: not through flash, but simple, elegant and professional style. Here are our favorite pieces.
Colby Travel Pant
Gabrielle Chase/Business Insider
We elected the Colby Travel Pants as our favorite travel pants ever because they're low maintenance, effortlessly chic, and will work hard while you're on the road. With their stretchy waistband and deep swishy pockets, it hardly feels like I'm wearing suit pants. The lightweight fabric drapes crisply, yet remains soft and breathable on the skin after multiple washes.
These will hardly wrinkle, even after being stuffed unceremoniously to the bottom of a travel tote. When you're on a trip with a packed itinerary that leaves you no time to iron, these are the pants to wear. They're made with a remarkably silky and light polyester blend that holds its shape and doesn't crease while crammed in a carry-on.
They're also so flexible that I can sit in them for hours in bizarre cross-legged positions. The sleek, tapered legs allows for smooth movement while I navigate busy train platforms on my way to work. On my 5-foot-9 frame they're cropped, which I like because it means they won't drag on the floor as I move through crowded public transit stations. — Gabrielle Chase, senior associate style editor, Insider Reviews.
Bala Barrel Pant
Sally Kaplan/Business Insider
There is nothing I appreciate more than stretchy work pants that still look polished. This pair is made from a wrinkle-resistant technical material that looks and feels cool and silky. At 5-foot-2, the pants are the perfect length for a slightly slouchy but not messy look.
The Bala Barrel Pants are extremely sleek with heels and boots, but I love to pair them with an unexpected shoe like a sandal for a more casual look. I also really appreciate that the waistband is super stretchy in the back but looks tailored in the front. — Sally Kaplan, executive editor, Insider Reviews.
Becca Pointelle Tee
Sally Kaplan/Business Insider
Sweater tees are one of the most underrated closet staples, and the Becca Pointelle Tee one from M.M.Lafleur is a winner. The pointelle detail at the shoulder is subtle but beautiful, and it gives the sweater a little something extra. I love that it uses a cotton-silk blend, so it's machine washable. The light-to-mid weight means it can comfortably be layered under a blazer, and it works for pretty much every season except maybe the hottest days of summer. — Sally Kaplan, executive editor, Insider Reviews.
Leona Wrap Top
Gabrielle Chase/Business Insider
Unlike the starchy, wrinkle-prone button-down shirts I've tried wearing to the office, the Leona Wrap Top feels soft, smooth, and breathable throughout the day. This poly-viscose blend almost feels like silk, except much less easy to crease. It's perfect if you're traveling to a hot climate for work and need a comfortable top that looks put-together on the go.
The wrap tie doesn't snatch your waist, but merely holds the garment closed in a way that feels almost precarious. It prompted me to ask myself in the mirror: "Am I doing this right?" That said, the fabric is so beautifully soft and light I wish I could wear it to work all summer. If you're considering splurging on M.M. LaFleur shirt, stick to the basics: choose a top that has a more conventional, intuitive design with the same material composition. — Gabrielle Chase, senior associate style editor, Insider Reviews.
Carmela Longline Dress
Samantha Crozier/Business Insider
With its square neckline and midi length, the Carmela Longline Dress feels like an easy one-and-done option for the office, especially on summer days when you want to look presentable but still stay cool. The practical details — like machine-washable, wrinkle-resistant fabric and built-in bra strap holders — make it especially appealing for long workdays or business travel.
The belt is also removable, which means that you can wear this as a shift dress for days when you're sitting at your desk or add the belt when you want more structure.
As far as the fit, I think this work dress would suit a variety of shapes and sizes. I'm five-foot-two and it hit right above the ankle on me, but it would be a true midi dress on someone taller. I also have a DD bust, and the dress had enough space up-top that I didn't feel like my chest was straining the fabric.
The Renata Shift Dress
Samantha Crozier
The Renata Shift Dress feels like one of those work pieces that looks polished right away but still has enough thoughtful details to make it stand out. The vertical pinstripes are especially flattering — they really elongate the body and make the dress feel a little sharper and more tailored than a plain shift. I wore a medium, and for the most part, the fit worked well, but I did notice that my DD bust was putting a little strain on the hidden button placket down the front. It wasn't overly obvious, and I don't think anyone else would necessarily notice it at first glance, but it was enough that I was aware of it while wearing it.
What I liked most about this dress was the shape. Even though it starts as a fairly classic shift silhouette, the two buttons at the back let you cinch the waist a bit, which gives it more structure and makes it feel more flattering and intentional. That detail keeps it from looking too boxy or shapeless, and I think it makes a big difference in how polished the dress looks on. The fabric also has a nice substantial feel that helps it drape well, though it does run a little heavy for very hot summer days. Outside of peak summer, though, I think it's a really strong workwear option — easy to wear, flattering, and professional without feeling boring.
The bottom line
M.M.LaFleur makes some of the most thoughtfully designed workwear we tested. The brand stands out for the little things: soft, wrinkle-resistant fabric blends, bra strap holders, and adjustable hems to give you a custom fit. While the price point is undeniably high, it feels justified by the quality of the materials, the practicality of the design, and how often you could realistically wear each piece to lower the cost-per-wear.
That said, not every piece will be for everyone. In our testing, the best styles were the ones that leaned into the brand's strengths: versatile dresses, low-maintenance pants, and elevated basics that feel polished without being fussy. More complicated designs were less universally successful. Overall, if you're willing to invest in pieces because you want comfortable, professional, and low-maintenance, clothing M.M.LaFleur is worth it.
