Tottenham midfielder's season is over in latest injury blow after what should have been a breakthrough loan
A Tottenham youngster, who has been impressing out on loan, has picked up a serious injury, which has brought his campaign to a premature end.
Several of Tottenham’s youngsters have excelled away on loan this season, but a couple of them have suffered injury setbacks recently.
Both Mikey Moore and Luka Vuskovic have been sidelined, with some reports suggesting that the Croat has severely damaged his knee joints.
While both of those players are expected to feature again for their loan clubs this season, that will not be the case with another Spurs academy graduate.
George Abbott set to return to Tottenham after injury blow
Abbott was recalled from Wycombe Wanderers and loaned out to Mansfield Town in January after struggling for regular starts at Adams Park Stadium in the first half of the season.
The 20-year-old has been faring better at Mansfield, having played 11 times for the club since his switch, scoring once and assisting once.
However, the youngster has suffered a setback, according to Football.London who report that Abbott has suffered a serious quad injury.
The injury has ended his loan spell at Mansfield, with the midfielder not expected to be back in action until pre-season.
This is a shame for Abbott, who managed just 22 games in all competitions this season, scoring two goals. Compare that to his last injury-free campaign in 2024/25 where he netted six and assisted seven in all comps for Notts County.
2026 should have been a springboard for the young midfielder, but it now feels more like a reset. Fingers crossed Tottenham can find him a good loan for next season. Who knows, he might even end up being a squad option if Spurs are in the Championship.
Abbott’s recurring quad problems are a concern for Spurs
This is not the first injury of this kind that the young Tottenham man has suffered over the last 12 months.
Back in October of last year, Abbott had to undergo surgery on his quad, which interrupted his development at Wycombe.
This appears to be a repeat injury, which means that the Spurs medical team and the youngster will have to be very careful with deciding their next course of action.
