‘Witch hunt’: Democrat Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick quits Congress moments before being expelled
A Democrat member of the U.S. House of Representatives resigned “effective immediately” from Congress on Tuesday as she was on the verge of being expelled as part of an ethics probe into her use of campaign funds.
“Rather than play these political games, I choose to step away,” wrote Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick of Florida.

“This was not a fair process. The Ethics Committee refused my new attorney’s reasonable request for time to prepare my defense.”
Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) resigned just MINUTES before an Ethics Committee hearing where her fate was to be read out
Her seat in the hearing was left empty, and the Chair read her resignation letter aloud.
She milked every dollar out of taxpayers before quitting.

“I will not stand by and pretend that this has been anything other than a witch hunt. I simply cannot stand by and allow my due process rights to be trampled on, and my good name to be tarnished.”
If anyone is wondering why @CongresswomanSC is being expelled…

The Associated Press reports: “Members of the House Ethics Committee on Tuesday had been set to weigh what punishment to recommend after they found she committed 25 violations of House rules and ethical standards, including breaking campaign finance laws.
“Republicans had already called for the expulsion of Cherfilus-McCormick, who was in her third term and was running for reelection in a southeastern Florida district. She is also facing federal criminal charges accusing her of stealing $5 million in coronavirus disaster relief funds and using the money to buy items such as a 3-carat yellow diamond ring.
“Cherfilus-McCormick has pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges and says she is not guilty of ethics violations, either.”
Sheila McCormick has been found guilty on 25 counts yet she still refuses to resign, so she will now be EXPELLED. It shouldn’t take 3+ years to investigate corruption, House Ethics needs a COMPLETE overhaul. pic.twitter.com/mQsTK3yLOH
