Jelly Roll Admits Heartbreaking Setback: 'I Have Lost My Way'
Over the past several months, the world has been rooting for country music superstar Jelly Roll in the midst of his inspiring weight loss journey. However, after losing nearly 300 pounds in recent months, it appears that he has suffered a significant setback.
In a candid video this week, Jelly Roll admitted that he "kind of got off the rails" when it came to his weight loss regimen, causing him to gain a significant amount of weight. But he's committed to getting back on the right track.
Jelly Roll's Weight Loss Journey
Over the past several months, Jelly Roll has been very candid about his weight loss journey as he has shed nearly 300 pounds.
Back in January, Jelly Roll appeared on the cover of Men's Health after his weight fell to just 265.7 pounds after he’d previously weighed 540 pounds.
The country music star told Men's Health that when he began his weight loss journey, his goal was to appear on the cover of Men’s Health by March 2026. Ultimately, he reached that goal three months early by appearing on the cover in January.
A Significant Setback
While appearing on the cover of Men's Health was a major goal for Jelly Roll, it sounds like he ultimately suffered a rather heartbreaking setback around that same time.
During a recent vlog, Jelly Roll stepped back on the scale for the first time in a while to reveal that he has suffered a pretty significant setback, gaining 12 pounds from the last time he weighed himself.
Jelly Roll explained that this weight gain came as a result of a number of factors, including the holiday season.
"I was like, 'You know what, man, I've been working hard for the past three years losing this weight.' I said, 'I'm gonna enjoy the holidays,'" Jelly Roll recalled in his vlog.
However, it seems that he spiraled a bit from there.
"I ate a big Thanksgiving meal and I ate a big birthday meal and I ate a big Christmas meal," Jelly Roll said. "And I kinda got off the rails."
Jelly Roll said that things got worse for him when he broke his collarbone a few days before Christmas and was unable to exercise the way that he wanted to. As a result, he suffered a setback that has lasted him for a few months.
"I said all that to say, I have, to some degree, lost my way," Jelly admitted.
Even though the country music star reached 265 pounds and was on the cover of Men's Health, that was not his ultimate goal.
"It was not the weight I wanted to get to to be at maintenance," he continues. "I'm still about 40 or 50 pounds, maybe 60 [away from my goal weight.]"
Obviously, this is heartbreaking for anyone who has been following his weight loss journey over the past several weeks, but Jelly Roll is making sure this is not where the story ends.
Rededicating Himself
After the setback, Jelly Roll has decided to rededicate himself to reaching his target weight. In fact, he's now got some other goals, too.
"We set the new goal of training for the New York City Marathon in November," he said. "I wanna get these last 40 or 50 pounds off. And then I eventually wanna cut my skin."
While the Men's Health cover shoot was a dream come true, he wants to be able to pose shirtless next time, in an even more high-profile magazine.
"I eventually want to appear on the cover of something crazy like GQ, or Rolling Stone or Vanity Fair or Forbes or TIME with my shirt off," Jelly says. "And it gets real silly now, but I don't know. I just believe that there's this story where a guy can go from 560 pounds to a shirt off picture."
For a guy who has already shed almost 300 pounds, it doesn't sound like his goals are that far off, even if he has suffered a bit of a setback.
