Iran’s Ghalibaf says Trump seeks ‘surrender talks’ under pressure
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Donald Trump is trying to turn negotiations into “surrender talks” by maintaining a naval blockade and violating the ceasefire.
Ghalibaf said Tehran would not accept negotiations “under threat,” warning that such pressure could be used to justify renewed conflict in the region.
He added that Iran has prepared “new cards on the battlefield” over the past two weeks, signalling readiness for escalation if needed, without giving details.
His remarks come as tensions remain high following stalled negotiations between Iran and the United States.
Trump said in a media interview that a potential agreement could be signed in Pakistan, though no confirmed talks have taken place so far.
He added that a U.S. delegation, led by Vice President JD Vance, was expected to travel to Islamabad for discussions.
Trump also acknowledged that Iran is angered by the blockade of key waterways and the seizure of one of its commercial vessels.
U.S. forces recently seized an Iranian cargo vessel in regional waters, saying it attempted to bypass maritime restrictions imposed by Washington.
Tehran condemned the action as “armed piracy,” warning of consequences and linking the incident to broader tensions at sea.
Iranian media have reported that drones were launched toward U.S. naval vessels following the incident, raising fears of direct confrontation.
While no damage has been confirmed, the episode highlighted risks around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route.
Previous rounds of talks between Iran and the United States in Pakistan ended without a comprehensive agreement after hours of negotiations.
Islamabad has been attempting to mediate, but both sides remain divided on key issues, including sanctions and security guarantees.
