Just last week Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from the Barcelona Open after undergoing a test on his right wrist, the tournament announced at the time.
Not long later, the tennis star announced he wouldn't be able to compete as the home favorite in the Madrid Open.
"There are some news that are incredibly hard to share. Madrid is home, one of the most special places on my calendar, and that's why it hurts so much not to be able to play here for the second year in a row," Alcaraz wrote on social media.
"It hurts especially not to be in front of my people, in a tournament that means so much. Thank you for the unwavering affection, and I hope we see each other soon."

Alcaraz added that he is trying to be patient.
"I am trying to have a lot of patience these days, but we are fine. We are there waiting a little bit. We have some tests coming up in a few days, and from there, we will see how the injury is and what steps to take next. For now, I'm trying to stay positive, to stay upbeat, although these days are getting long."
Following his withdrawal in Barcelona, Alcaraz admitted the injury was "more serious" than initially anticipated.
"From today’s tests, it’s a slightly more serious injury than we all expected," he said. "And, honestly, I need to listen to my body, to do what’s best for me, so it doesn’t impact me in the future.”
The French Open kicks off on May 18.
