“The past is like a handful of dust. It filters through your fingers, disappearing, little by little,” Stevie declares in a voiceover in the preview video shared by Katy on Monday (April 20).
“I wish, for one day, I could go back. In another life, I would do things differently.”
The song has been steadily gaining traction on TikTok and social media, and has begun charting again in various places around the world.
“The One That Got Away” is a song by American singer-songwriter Katy Perry from her third studio album, Teenage Dream (2010). The song was produced by Dr. Luke and Max Martin, both of whom also co-wrote the song with Perry. The song was recorded in Conway Recording Studios, based in Hollywood, California, and is a mid-tempo pop ballad about a lost love. It features a reference to the English rock band Radiohead, and compares the strength of the relationship to that of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash.
The song was originally released on September 30, 2011 as the sixth and final single from Teenage Dream. The video was directed by Floria Sigismondi and premiered in November 2011, featuring Diego Luna. It ultimately went to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
